Projects aren't just for surfacing findings in customer interviews, sales calls, and usability tests. In this lesson, you will learn how to centralize documents and survey data to store and analyze in Projects to enrich your customer understanding further.
Conduct secondary research and draw connections between your customer data and broader industry trends. Bring in existing documentation, academic papers, presentations, and market and competitor reports as raw data in your notes to be tagged and surfaced in your insights.
You can upload documents into your project from your device, or .
To do this, open your project, go to Notes and select Import data → Browse.
Once your document is uploaded, open the note and preview your document to tag.
Supported document types include:
PDFs (.pdf)
Microsoft Word documents (.docx)
Microsoft Powerpoint files (.pptx)
Keynote presentations (.key)
Apple Pages (.pages)
Google cloud documents, sheets, slides or drawings. They will be imported as a static PDF.
Alongside your customer calls or in a project of it's own, you can import survey response data from a CSV spreadsheet for deeper analysis.
Importing a CSV file into a project works different to other files. When importing a CSV of survey data, Dovetail will automatically detect the file type and map a row to a single page. Typically, a row represents a single participant's complete survey, structured to include all questions and answers to them.
To import a CSV of survey data, click Import and select your file.
Next, you will need to map columns from your spreadsheet to how it will be presented on a single page. We recommended selecting the participant ID or name as Title and the remaining as Content.
Once you've completed mapping columns, preview how the final import will look like for each completed survey and press Confirm
. This will start creating new data objects in your project for each completed survey.
When the import is complete, open Insights
to view an insight of results, powered by AI. This will show a breakdown of each question and summarize their results in text or a chart.
Review available integrations and connect any relevant tools to your Dovetail account. From there, start a blank project and upload a document as a note to highlight.
