Engage your team to inform decisions

We know that engaging with customer data is different depending on your role responsibilities or level of involvement to specific projects. Whether you are involved as a close research partner, influencing the research goals, or only engaging with the outcomes, you can break down silos across your organization by enabling others to discover insights they may not know about your customers.

In this lesson, we cover three key ways you can engage your team to solve problems collaboratively, keep a pulse on new opportunities and create a customer-centric culture through customer data.

Share important quotes to start a conversation

The best way to start a conversation with your stakeholders is by bring attention to customer findings where your team work every day. In Dovetail, highlights can be shared across channels in Teams and Slack to make it easier for stakeholders to consume data and turn user feedback into action items.

  • If you've found a highlight from search, hover over the card and select Share. From there, the share dialog will appear where you can Copy link to highlight and paste in Slack or Teams. Make sure your Dovetail account is connected to ensure a successful embed in Slack or Teams.

  • If you've found an insight with a collection of highlights compiled into a reel, you can also share and embed these in Slack or Teams. To do this, hover over the reel, select Copy link to reel and paste the link into your chosen tool.

Build a case with evidence from your customers

Create compelling reports or presentations that bring together quantitative data from other tools and qualitative data from Dovetail to tell powerful stories that communicate context behind the numbers. For designers, this may look like evidence that supports a design decision and for product managers, what initiatives you are interested in prioritizing for the next quarter.

For reports created in Notion or Confluence

  • If you've found a highlight from search, hover over the card and select Share. From there, you can paste the link into Notion or Confluence. This will preview a live embed of the highlight for anyone to watch or listen to.

  • If you've found an insight with a collection of highlights compiled into a reel, you can also share and embed these in Notion or Confluence. To do this, hover over the reel, select Copy link to reel and paste the link into your chosen tool.

For presentations created in Google Slides, Powerpoint, or Canva

  • If you've found a highlight from search, open the highlight and click onto the text. From there, navigate to ••• and select Download highlight. The video or audio file will be then ready to upload into Google Slides, Powerpoint, or Canva.

Keep a pulse on the latest from your customers

With Ask Dovetail, you can schedule curated digests that capture the most important updates you want to keep track of. These can be delivered to you in Slack through a text-based update or, more an engaging audio update.

  • To schedule a digest, first check if your team have connected Ask Dovetail. If this is the case, configure a regular digest with the slash comment /digest.

  • From there, select which projects you would like to keep up-to-date with and what channels it should send to. You can also select how often the digest should be sent and when it should be delivered.

If you select audio, Dovetail will post a podcast-style update every week in Slack in a channel of your choosing like this one here. The audio is AI-generated, but if the project selected has recordings with real customer quotes that have been captured as highlights, these will play directly in their voice.
