You can now access customer insights directly within Slack and Microsoft Teams with Ask Dovetail.
Ask Dovetail brings the voice of your customers straight into your team’s conversations. You can ask questions and instantly receive evidence-backed summaries, allowing everyone in your organization to make data-driven decisions at the speed of AI.
To keep your team continuously informed, you can also schedule regular audio or text digests delivered right to Slack or Teams. Customize these digests by selecting specific projects or themes, choosing the format that best suits your team, and setting the frequency—daily, weekly, or monthly. This ensures your team stays updated on the topics that matter most without disrupting their workflow.
Ask Dovetail is available as an add-on for customers on our Enterprise plan.
You can now upload survey responses, map questions and answers, and receive AI-generated insights with text summaries of responses.
We’ve updated the CSV import experience so you can instantly analyze unstructured survey data in Dovetail. You can also add question blocks to your data to manually capture additional responses and answer blocks to insights to generate a summary of all responses to a question by pressing the /
command.
We’re also working on integrations and support for charts and other survey data types, such as single and multi-select responses.
You can now control the level of AI analysis you want through our magic automation options. Choose from fully automated, helpful suggestions or disable AI completely. These settings are configured on a per-project basis, and can be updated by managers and contributors.
Transcription language, summarization, and automatic highlight creation are available now, with more AI analysis options coming soon!
To configure magic automation in your project, simply open project settings by pressing •••
in the top right, then select Magic automation

Highlight reels can now be unfurled in Jira, Confluence, and Trello, allowing Atlassian users to quickly gain additional context without needing to open Dovetail. Simply click the copy link icon in the bottom right of any highlight reel and paste it onto a Confluence page, Jira issue, or Trello card to embed.
Dovetail now clearly indicates when AI has contributed to your workspace content. The orange magic icon will appear as a contributor on summaries, highlights, and any other content generated by AI. If a user edits a summary or accepts a highlight, their avatar will also be added, making it easy to see where human input was involved.
You can also utilize filters when searching to include or exclude AI-generated content by selecting Dovetail Magic
within the Contributors
filter. This allows you to distinguish between AI-generated and user-created content quickly.
We’ve just made some big upgrades to magic cluster. The accuracy and granularity of generated themes has been improved by 2x, so you’ll see more relevant groups with titles that match your highlights. The number of generated groups now scales dynamically with the number of highlights on your canvas, and we’ve also added multilingual support to prevent groups from splitting by language.
You can now connect your Google Calendar and Dovetail accounts to directly import recorded calls, meetings, and events from your calendar. Once imported, your meetings will be automatically transcribed and summarized for you, so you don’t have to do a thing.
We currently support automatic imports for anyone using Zoom for video conferencing and are working on integrations for Google Meet and Microsoft Teams. To get started, navigate to Settings → Integrations and click on Google Calendar!
Security, reliability, privacy, and compliance are at the heart of everything we do at Dovetail. Ensuring the safety and privacy of your data is baked into everyday processes throughout our organization. That’s why we’re really excited to share that Dovetail is now officially ISO 27001 certified!

Magic highlight now uses your existing project tags to automatically classify and group suggested highlights. Create new tags based on the themes you care about, and they’ll start being applied to your suggested highlights. Over time, as the tag is applied to more highlights, it will become more accurate in recognizing when to apply it.
Highlights and reels can now be embedded directly in Asana. Simply paste a link to a highlight or reel from your workspace into a project brief or task description, and the link will automatically turn into an embedded video that can be played without opening in Dovetail.
Now you can share a highlight web link, making it even easier for you to share highlights with your team, wherever they are, even if they don’t have a Dovetail account. Web links allow anyone with the link to view the highlight without logging in.
Navigate to a highlight, click Share, enable Share to web, then click Copy web link.
Magic search is now included in our API, so your whole team can search and discover insights in the tools they’re already using.

We’ve added user profiles, which allow you to see what insights, notes, and projects other users in your workspace have recently contributed to. You can view another user’s profile by clicking on their profile picture or navigating to Settings → Users and clicking on their name.
You can now set a default language for all transcriptions across your workspace and set project-specific languages when needed. This is great if your video and audio files are always in the same language, if your language isn’t supported for auto-detect, or if you have teams across countries working with different languages in the same workspace.
We’ve also made it easier to regenerate transcripts. If you accidentally transcribe in the wrong language, you can now click on Transcription options (•••) → Language → select the correct language from the dropdown menu → Regenerate.
You can now harness the full potential of Dovetail by using our new API to create custom scripts and applications that seamlessly integrate with your workspace, allowing you to automate tasks, extract valuable insights, and manage your data more efficiently.

We’ve streamlined notes with a new sidebar containing note summaries, highlights, tags, fields, and comments. The note sidebar can be fully collapsed when not in use and then brought back when needed. Learn more about each sidebar tab below.
Summary tab: This is where you can generate a note summary, which will be split into timestamped sections for notes that contain a transcribed video or audio file.
Highlights tab: The highlights tab displays all highlights in the order that they appear on the note. Clicking on a highlight in this tab will automatically scroll to its location within the note.
Tags tab: Here, you’ll find a list of all tags on the note and the highlights on which they are used.
Fields tab: Note fields are now displayed here and are no longer at the top of the note. This allows you to have as many fields as you need without pushing your important note content further down the page.
Comments tab: All top-level comments and inline threads can now be found here. Clicking on a comment in this tab will automatically scroll to its location within the note.
We’ve also added the ability to watch, download, and share a highlights only version of videos from directly within your notes. To do this, switch to the Highlights only tab located above any highlighted video.
We’ve improved one of our most popular features - canvas view. Now, when you create a new canvas, it will start as a blank space where you can add, remove, and duplicate the data you want to work with.
To add objects to your canvas, select Add in the left-hand toolbar or press P on your keyboard. From there, you can narrow down results using search and filters.
Additionally, objects can now be duplicated on a canvas so you can map a single piece of data across multiple groups and themes.
You can now effortlessly follow all projects in a folder with just one click. Stay up-to-date with your team’s projects by navigating to a folder and clicking 🔔 Follow in the top right.
You can also select where you receive notifications by navigating to your notification settings.
We’ve made it easier for you to share reels with your team. Simply select two or more video highlights from your canvas view and press Play reel.
You can give your reel a title and select whether you’d like to include captions, then all you need to do is download and share with your team!
We’ve made further improvements to note summaries! When you summarize a note that includes a transcript, the result will be split into sections with automatically generated titles and timestamps. This update provides more context to summaries and allows you to quickly identify and navigate to the exact points in the transcript where the summary came from.
You can now create highlights without needing to apply a tag. Simply select text on a note like normal, and click Highlight from the new, simplified action bar. You can still apply tags to highlights later on, either from the note itself, or from a highlight view.
This change makes it faster than ever to share a quick clip or assemble a highlight reel from a customer call, sales demo, or research session.
If you’re a power user, you can quickly create highlights by selecting text, pressing Tab on your keyboard, then pressing Enter.
Enterprise customers now have access to our closed beta for video, audio and text redaction. While the beta feature is enabled in your workspace, you’ll have the ability to blur and mute videos uploaded to notes, as well as the option to redact sections on the transcript.

We have updated our product URL to dovetail.com as part of our ongoing effort to streamline the entire Dovetail experience.

You can now create a reel directly from a layout within an insight. Simply create a new layout by pressing ➕ from the insight toolbar, drag your highlights into one of the columns, and click Add to reel.
Additionally, when adding multiple references to an insight from a canvas view, they will be automatically formatted into a two or three column layout, ready for presentation without any extra effort.
We’ve simplified how references appear, making it easier to create engaging insights. You now have more control over what information you surface to your team in a reference; ensuring you can create the most engaging consumption experience. By default, references won’t show project name and creator properties.
You can now create groups to combine related content on any canvas view when affinity mapping to visually separate clusters of notes, highlights, or insights.
Once a group has been created, you'll be able to rename, resize, and move it freely around the canvas!
We’ve made a significant improvement to how references behave in Dovetail. Adding a reference to an insight will now create a point-in-time snapshot of the object, so that if the underlying data is modified or deleted, it will remain unchanged.
You can now be assured that the content within your insights is just as you intended them to be, even if the original has been modified.
Additionally, this change also brings faster loading times for your insights and quicker search results!

In February 2019 we will be releasing a new insights experience which will replace the existing insights feature. You’ll be able to choose to migrate your insights to these new insights, or to tags, depending on what suits you best.
We’re thrilled to introduce you to the new version of Dovetail! We’ve been working hard on creating intuitive navigation and terminology, an improved highlighting experience, and new features like templates and project categories.
Organize and sort your projects into custom categories on the projects list. This is useful if you have lots of projects and need to group them by team, department, method, or status!
Create shared project templates for you and your teammates to start from! Click + New project to create a template, or convert an existing project to a template via the project Actions (···).
Accidentally deleted a note, tag, insight, or group? Now you can restore them for up to 30 days. Open the project Actions (···) then click ‘Recently deleted…’ to restore deleted stuff.
You can now manage team and individual user access to projects with four access levels. This feature is available on all plans except Starter. Open the project Actions (···) then click ‘Manage access…’ to get started!
Stream audio and video inline with play, pause, and seek controls. Please note we currently we don’t do any compression for media streaming, so let us know if you run into issues!
Copy and move single notes, tags, and insights from the actions menu or select multiple on the board to copy or move them all at once. Cross-project operations coming soon!
Not a fan of keyboard shortcuts? Our new editor toolbar gives you buttons to format your content and insert headings, lists, images, files, links, and more.
We’ve been working on a few files-related things, including adding the ability to paste images directly from the clipboard. Enjoy!
Our new user onboarding experience helps people set up their account and briefly explains the key concepts of Dovetail like projects, highlights, search, and more.
Archived projects are now read only, so you’ll be able to ‘lock a project down’ after it’s finished to prevent anyone accidentally making changes.
You can now add images, audio, video, and other files to notes, tag descriptions, and insights! Just drag and drop files from your computer into the editor. You can even drop multiple at once!
Full-text search is here! Search all of your notes, tags, insights, and highlights across projects. Refine your results with our powerful new query language, DQL.
Notice something different? We thought it was time for a lick of paint! Our navigation and design updates give you more space for your content and new ways to express yourself with color.
We’ve released an updated Zapier App with five new triggers and two new actions, along with more configuration options. Read the blog post for more information or visit Zapier to check it out!
Play around with the three available metrics, group roll-ups, and filters. Open a project, then click Charts to get started.
Automatic sentiment analysis is here! Dovetail will now automatically analyze the sentiment at the sentence-level on content you import via a spreadsheet, Zapier, or a feedback form.
Our new charts feature helps you measure changes in user feedback and research over time. To get started, open a project, then click Charts near the top left of the screen.
We’ve created a new Slack Workspace for Dovetail users to find help, share tips, give us product suggestions, and learn from others.
We’ve added basic support for links. Paste a URL and hit spacebar to turn it into a link. Open links by right clicking and choosing ‘Open in new tab’. Stay tuned for more improvements over the coming weeks!
We’ve made it easier for you to quickly analyze multiple notes. When a note has at least one tag, there’s a new button to move the note to a different group and show the next one.
Now anyone with a verified company email address can join your team when they sign up. This makes it much easier for colleagues to join you on Dovetail without having to invite everyone individually! Enabled by default, this can be turned off in team settings.
It turns out researchers love indented lists because we got a LOT of feedback about our editor not supporting them. Now you can use the TAB key to indent list items and Shift + TAB to outdent.
Love spreadsheets? Great news! You can now import research data from a spreadsheet and export your highlights to a spreadsheet. To import, click Import → Create notes from a CSV file. To export, click the More menu → Export to CSV.
Not a fan of our purple default photo? Visit your profile page to pick a new one.
Today we’re introducing groups, drag & drop reordering, and a new Trello-like board view. Pick up notes, tags, and insights to rearrange and organize them, and switch between a list or a board.
