Putting the customer first is at our core. We’ve launched several new features to bring you closer to your customer, fast.
In April, we launched magic highlight, magic redact, magic search, and more at Insight Out, our first-ever conference for customer-obsessed product people. These new, AI-powered features introduced end-to-end automation built for uncovering customer insights faster than ever.
You told us these features speed up your workflow. You shared how accelerating the curation of customer knowledge unlocks insights for designers, product managers, and salespeople—not just researchers.
Today, thanks to your feedback, we’re excited to announce several major upgrades to our AI-powered magic features, along with a raft of other improvements to the Dovetail experience.
The insights you need to unlock your next decision are buried in customer calls, research reports, and user feedback across your organization. But finding those answers is challenging—you’ve got to know who to ask or where to find them, which is time-intensive.
Magic search in Dovetail allows anyone in your organization to query all of your research and user feedback—documents, presentations, transcripts, and more—and receive an answer complete with links to supporting evidence. Magic search works without needing to highlight or tag.
We’ve upgraded our AI model to give you better answers, faster, and have increased the amount of results that magic search summarizes. Expect more accurate, more comprehensive answers, with more citations.
Discover insights into what features customers love, their biggest pain points, or opportunities to meet their needs, all with Dovetail magic search.
Click Search then Explore topics and questions to try magic search.
Magic search is now included in our API, so your whole team can search and discover insights in the tools they’re already using.
Searching Dovetail via an API unlocks powerful new ways for your team to integrate customer insights into internal tools and workflows.
Our magic search endpoint also supports advanced filtering, enabling you to filter results by folder, project, contributor, tags, or custom fields.
If you’re just hunting for a specific piece of data, insight, or project, our new quick search feature enables you and your team to find exactly what you’re looking for with simple and fast keyword matching.
Quick search also remembers your most recent queries, making it even easier to get back to a query you recently searched.
We’ve redesigned our editor, making it less overwhelming for new users, and placing the best Dovetail features at your fingertips.
New hover actions enable you to highlight, tag, redact, or comment on transcripts in one click. Coupled with features like magic highlight, Dovetail is the fastest tool to analyze and collaborate on customer calls.
Our new insert menu allows you to connect integrations, import content, upload files, and control the layout and formatting of your work in Dovetail.
Simply hit the Slash (/) key on your keyboard to add content and layout options to notes, insights, the project readme, and more.
In April, we launched magic highlight which provides suggestions for highlights of key moments.
We’ve improved the AI behind this feature to increase the accuracy of the suggestions. Magic highlights are now surprisingly accurate—across all Dovetail users, the average acceptance rate is now 61%.
You can now also accept or reject suggested magic highlights directly in the sidebar, without needing to scroll through long transcripts.
Did someone say automatic tagging? Soon magic highlights will automatically add a tag from your existing workspace or project tags, helping to categorize highlights with no manual work required.
These are just some of the improvements we’re making to Dovetail as we work towards fully-automated end-to-end analysis of qual data.
Downloading, cutting, and blurring videos to protect customer privacy, while crucial for compliance, is time-consuming. That’s all before you get it into the hands of executives, engineers, or designers to drive action.
This is why we built magic redact, which allows you to blur and mute sections of video in seconds—in the same place where you store and analyze your data. Simply highlight the transcript and click Redact to remove text, blur parts of your video, and mute audio.
Add context or an explanation by replacing the ‘redacted’ text directly in the editor with your own annotation. If you made a mistake and redacted the wrong thing, now you can undo redactions to recover the data.
We’re also working on automatically suggesting redactions for sensitive data such as emails, names, and phone numbers. Stay tuned for more.
Magic redact makes protecting your customers’ data easy, and it’s available today for all customers on our Enterprise plan.
See what your teammates are up to with user profiles in Dovetail. Now you can follow teammates and get updated when they create something new.
Keep track of work that’s happening across your team, and stay on top of new insights across the organization.
Whether you’re saving an answer from magic search, conducting desk research, or writing a report that spans projects, you can now create a private insight on your profile before sharing it with others.
Just head to Your work then click Create and choose Insight, or click Create insight on the magic search summary card to save an answer.
We’ve smashed a lot of bugs and made some further small but impactful improvements to make your Dovetail experience more delightful.
Set the transcription language at a workspace or project level so you no longer need to specify the language you’re after every time.
Transcript summaries now automatically replace generic ‘Speaker’ labels with names when you assign them in the transcript.
You can now add up to 1,000 highlights at a time when selecting what to add as references to a canvas view.
Last but not least, we’re excited to share a sneak peak of some improvements we’re making to how people navigate around Dovetail.
Whether you’re a product manager, executive, or researcher, our mission is to make it drop dead easy for you to find what you’re looking for in Dovetail. Over the next few months, we’re progressively rolling out new navigation.
We’ve redesigned Dovetail from the ground up, adding an intuitive sidebar, a streamlined projects interface, and simplified views, filters, and sorts.
Our product design team has spent several months developing and usability testing this new navigation, with the goal that nobody feels overwhelmed coming into Dovetail, and instead empowered to browse, search, and discover the insights that are most relevant to them.
This new navigation will be available in beta soon. During the beta, individual users will be able to opt in (and opt out) at any time without changing the experience for the entire workspace.
While this is a big change, we know this will make Dovetail more intuitive, easier to use, and more familiar for new users.
With these new features and improvements, now, you and your team can find, share, and act on customer insights faster than ever.
