How to integrate Dovetail with Slack

Sharing research is often a challenge—especially when you’re working with multiple teams and stakeholders. You need to be able to quickly and easily pass along insights and data, so everyone can stay informed and work together efficiently.

If you’re a researcher looking for ways to effectively share your research with your team, you’ll be pleased to hear that Dovetail has a Slack integration that makes it easy to do just that.

Installing the Dovetail Slack app

First, you’ll need to add Dovetail to your Slack workspace. This can be done by visiting the Slack App Directory and searching for “Dovetail.” Once you’ve found it, click Add to Slack and follow the instructions to add it to your workspace.

Alternatively, you can install our Slack integration direct from Dovetail. Under Settings, click Integrations, then the Connect button beneath Slack.

Once Dovetail is added to your workspace, you can start sharing, viewing, and searching for research with your team.

Receiving research notifications and comments

Dovetail will notify you of comments or updates to any piece of research that you have followed or commented on. To follow a Story, click the Follow button in the top right hand corner of your page. To reply to a comment, click Reply and enter your comment in the pop up-up window, which will be sent directly to Dovetail once you click Post.

Searching for research

To search your insights hub for research, open any Slack channel and write /dovetail search, followed by any keywords you’d like to find. For example, if you wanted to search for competitor analysis, you could write /dovetail search competitor analysis.

When you perform a search from one of your Slack channels, you have the option to post Dovetail content directly to that channel. To do so, click the Post to button under the piece of content you’d like to share.

Sharing research

With the Dovetail Slack integration installed, any shared research will unfurl with rich previews. If you’d like to unlock this functionality for everyone on your team, encourage them to install the Slack integration!
